Chief executive of Celtic Manor resort in judging role

The chief executive of the Celtic Manor Resort will act as head judge at this year’s Monmouthshire Business Awards.

Dylan Matthews accepted the invitation earlier this year, but the appointment was kept “strictly under wraps” until its announcement last week.

Dylan, who is also a director of Newport Gwent Dragons, will oversee the judging process and cast the deciding vote in the case of a hung panel. The winner of The Judges’ Choice Award, a new category for 2013, will be determined by the Daily Mirror columnist Sylvia Marshall, and the TV personality and MoneyMagpie.com founder Jasmine Birtles.

Speaking for the first time about his involvement in the Monmouthshire Business Awards, Dylan admitted that he was preparing himself for a challenging task.

“It’s great to celebrate the achievements of business in this area and to see the Monmouthshire Business Awards go from strength to strength,” he said.

“I’m delighted to have been asked to head the judging panel this year, but I know already that it’s going to be a very tough job for us to pick the winners from so many excellent candidates.”

Janet Harris, the co-organiser of the Awards – dubbed the Oscars of the Welsh business industry – said the support of Celtic Manor Resort would prove invaluable, adding: “We are delighted that Dylan Matthews has chosen to support the 2013 Monmouthshire Business Awards.

“There can be little doubt that his support, and that of the Celtic Manor Resort, is testament to the quality of this wonderful annual event.”
