Footfall in Colwyn Bay is up five per cent since new beach opening

Ellingham House in Colwyn Bay, North Wales has seen a 20 per cent increase in takings since Conwy County Borough Council started its £52 million regeneration project, which includes a dry beach.

The town’s premier 5-star B&B hotel has also seen a noticeably higher footfall of visitors from further afield following the council’s numerous projects. Proprietor of Ellingham House Hotel Ian Davis commented: “We have noticed a broadening of our reach in terms of customer demographic.”

He continued: “Whereas before we were typically seeing visitors from the North West, we now have many more residents from the North and Midlands. We’re only two hours on the motorway from Nottingham – and with a proper sandy beach on offer, it’s no wonder landlocked consumers are hopping into their cars for a weekend of sun on the beach.
