Talbot Hotel in Malton opens its doors to the public

The refurbished Talbot Hotel in Malton opened its doors on 1 May after receiving a £4 million face-lift.

Restored to its former 17th century glory by the Fitzwilliam Estate, the hotel is working with celebrity chef James Martin to create a first-rate reputation with local cuisine.

Yorkshire-born television chef James Martin is keen to build upon Malton’s growing reputation as a destination for foodies, and has drawn up a menu composed of all his favourite Yorkshire dishes; from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab.

The brand new interior features 26 individually decorated bedrooms, including two suites. Each of the guest rooms has been given a distinct style, creating a far more personal and intimate experience. Guests may opt for the grand Rockingham Room that houses a four-poster bed and stunning chandelier. Alternatively, they could choose the Houghton Suite, which has a separate lounge area with an original 17th century fireplace, dining table and sofa.

Malton is a North Yorkshire market town with a mix of independent specialist shops and local fayre. The Talbot Hotel’s general manager, Robert Wormall, believes the hotel will be a credit to the town and provide a revitalising buzz. Nearby attractions include Castle Howard on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors and a number of picturesque seaside towns.
