Rockliffe Hall execs take on triathlon in aid of motor neurone disease

Three members of the executive team at Rockliffe Hall are taking part in the Helvellyn Triathlon on 3 September to raise funds for a motor neurone disease (MND) charity.

The hotel’s chief executive, Eamonn Elliott, executive chef of The Orangery, Richard Allen, and sales and marketing manager, Katie Scott, have signed up to what is said to be “one of the toughest triathlons in the world.”

The Helvellyn Triathlon features a swim in the Ullswater lake, the cycle leg includes the ride to the top of Kirkstone Pass which is 1489ft and a run up and down Helvellyn which is 3118ft.

The three members of staff will be raising money for deterMND, a charity established on behalf of Anto Finnegan, former Antrim Gaelic football captain, after he was diagnosed with MND in August 2012.

Entry is £280 per team and includes a breakfast roll and tea or coffee on arrival, a round of golf with live scores, dinner and a prize giving ceremony. £80 from each team will be donated to DeterMND.

The team are being sponsored by GRN Sportswear who are supplying their kit. The have set up a crowd fundraising page for the event. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/rockliffe-hall-deterMND

Elliott said: “In a moment of madness the three of us thought it would be a great idea to tackle this challenging triathlon. We have mixed feelings of excitement and dread ahead of the event and are training hard.

“The fact that we’re taking part to raise awareness of such a fantastic cause will drive us to succeed and we hope to raise lots of money for deterMND. We also hope to see lots of team entries for the charity golf day in October which should help us boost our fundraising total.”
