Lights out for Earth Hour at the Cavendish

The Cavendish London will turn off its energy supplies at 8:30pm on 23 March as part of Earth Hour 2013.

Organised by the World Wildlife Foundation, Earth Hour encourages people and organisations across the world to unite and campaign to protect the planet.

During Earth Hour, the four-star Mayfair hotel will limit its energy usage by turning off all the air conditioning, music, lamps and signage and shutting down the majority of its lifts and fridges.

General manager of the Cavendish London Neil Braude said: “At The Cavendish we’re passionate about our environment, and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do as a business. Earth Hour helps to raise awareness for the future of our planet and we support this wholeheartedly. We were even commended for “taking care of the environment” in the Sunday Times’ ‘Best Small Companies to Work for’ list this year.”

Guests checking-in to the hotel will be asked to donate funds to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest. At the end of the campaign, the names of those who donated will be picked at random and have the new trees named after them.
