Titchwell Manor has dropped foie gras in favour of a more animal welfare-friendly approach to its menu. This major ethical step means the award-winning Norfolk hotel and restaurant has qualified for ‘Simply Ask’.
Simply Ask is a campaign run by the RSPCA’s Freedom Food scheme, that aims to persuade more people to ask about the provenance of their food when they eat out and encourages restaurants to be more up front about where they source their ingredients.
Welfare-friendly restaurants, cafes and pubs that are eligible to join the campaign are listed on Freedom Food’s ‘Simply Ask’ restaurant finder at www.freedomfood.co.uk/simplyask, so that customers can search for venues that serve higher welfare ingredients. Simply Ask requires chefs not to use whole eggs from caged hens, foie gras or veal from calves that have not been humanely reared in their menus.
