Interstate to open six European hotels in 2021

The new openings include Aloft Birmingham, Bodmin Jail and Hampton by Hilton Canterbury in the UK

Interstate Hotels and Resorts – Aimbridge Hospitality’s international division – has announced its planned schedule of hotel openings for 2021 which will see six new properties across Europe.

The third-party management company says it is “optimistic” about the year ahead, with six properties set to open including Aloft Birmingham, Bodmin Jail and Hampton by Hilton Canterbury in the UK.

Its planned European openings are Holiday Inn Express Almere, Holiday Inn Express Brussels and Sapphire House – an Autograph Collection hotel – in Antwerp.

The announcement of Interstate’s planned openings for the year follows the company’s portfolio growth at the end of 2020, taking on the management of the 31 Jupiter Hotels properties.

Nicholas Northam, Interstate’s executive vice president – international, said: “There is no doubt that the last year has been the most challenging to hit our industry in living memory. Across our portfolio, like all other hotel operators worldwide, we have had to adapt to the turbulent market conditions and the significant drop in demand.

“However, with 2021 underway, we are optimistic about the year ahead and confident that thanks to the roll out of vaccinations across the globe, the hospitality industry will be able to get to its feet again and that we’ll see a resurgence in both business and leisure travel.”

He added: “Our planned openings for 2021 include some truly unique properties and hotels in key visitor locations, with a real mix of brand offerings. We look forward to working with our owners to open these sites in the coming months and welcome in their first guests as the world starts to move back towards a sense of normality.”

To date, Interstate’s pan-European portfolio stands at 144 properties, inclusive of committed pipeline, across the UK, western Europe, eastern Europe and Russia/CIS.
