OYO Hotels reports 100% surge in room bookings

The uptick in interest has came after the government’s announcement of a roadmap out of lockdown

OYO Hotels has reported a 100% uptick in room bookings for its UK sites following the government’s announcement of a roadmap out of lockdown.

Earlier this week, prime minister Boris Johnson revealed lockdown restrictions will gradually ease over the coming months, allowing hotels to partially reopen by 17 May.

The uptick in interest came the day after Johnson’s announcement (23 February), while the following day saw a further 20% rise in room bookings.

June saw the highest number of forward room booking, followed by May, suggesting people are keen to travel sooner rather than later.

Rishabh Gupta, head of OYO Hotels Europe UK, said: “We are delighted to see the immediate impact on consumer confidence of the clarity provided by the roadmap.

“The pent-up demand is clear to see from the booking patterns we’ve seen this week which show people are keen to travel again as soon as they can.”

Gupta added: “Throughout the pandemic OYO Hotels has pivoted to innovative ways of keeping our hotels open, from public sector partnerships to accommodation for essential workers, and has maintained occupancy levels over 10% above the industry average in 2021.

“2021 is sure to be a bumper year for domestic travel and with over 200 hotels across the UK we’re looking forward to opening up to all our OYO customers once again.”
