Today’s news in brief – 1/11/23

Tristan Capital Partners and Queensway have acquired a 63,195 sq ft office property on St. Andrew Square in Edinburgh, Scotland, from Patrizia Hanover for the development of a new Point A Hotel. This deal expands the Point A Hotel platform, held in a Joint Venture with Queensway, to 12 locations across the UK and Ireland. The platform originally included a portfolio of 10 operating and 1 development property when the fund acquired a majority stake in 2022. The St. Andrew Square location in Edinburgh will house the new Point A hotel, further expanding the brand’s presence.

The Grand Hotel Birmingham has appointed Johan Scheepers as its new general manager following a £45m restoration. With extensive experience in hospitality, Scheepers has managed properties such as Sun City Resort in South Africa and IHG’s Kimpton hotels in Edinburgh and Manchester. He aims to contribute to Birmingham’s vibrant culture and uphold the hotel’s legacy.

Clink Hostels, a family-owned hostel group, has named Marc Roebersen as its new chief operating officer. This appointment coincides with the company’s expansion phase, including the recent opening of Clink i Lár in Dublin. Roebersen, formerly the cluster general manager for Generator Hostels and the general manager of various Postillion Hotels, will oversee the brand’s growth and guest experience innovations, with a focus on revenue management in the Irish market.

Claridge’s in London has appointed Simon Attridge as its culinary director. Attridge brings a stellar culinary career, including a Michelin Star, and experience as executive chef at Gleneagles Hotel and Estate. In his new role, he will lead culinary operations, including the recently unveiled Claridge’s Restaurant and the hotel’s four award-winning bars. His aim is to balance innovation and tradition to maintain Claridge’s position as one of the world’s leading hotels. The hotel looks forward to evolving while preserving its beloved traditions.
