W Hotels, a part of Marriott Bonvoy’s extensive hotel brand portfolio, has revealed its latest addition, W Edinburgh, located in the St. James Quarter at the city centre. Inspired by Scottish culture, the hotel spans three buildings, offering 199 rooms and 45 suites, featuring outdoor terraces. Notably, it houses the UK’s first W Hotels Sound Suite recording studio. The interiors, designed by Jestico + Whiles, reflect Edinburgh’s coastal elements, with the Ribbon Building’s top floor providing stunning 360° city views. The hotel boasts the Extreme Wow Suite, three dining concepts, including the country’s first SushiSamba restaurant, and a Brazilian-inspired speakeasy named João’s Place.

Accor has appointed Gilda Perez-Alvarado as CEO of Orient Express, Maxime d’Angeac as artistic director of Orient Express, and Omer Acar as CEO of Fairmont. Perez-Alvarado, also Accor’s chief strategy officer, brings nearly two decades of experience, previously serving as global CEO of JLL hotels and hospitality. Acar, currently CEO of Raffles, will take the lead at Fairmont, while Mark Willis transitions to an advisor role. Perez-Alvarado and Acar’s appointments are effective from January 1, 2024. These strategic moves aim to strengthen Accor’s luxury and lifestyle division.

Warner Hotels announces the official opening of The Runnymede on Thames Hotel in autumn 2024. Situated in Egham, Surrey, it marks Warner Hotels’ 16th property and its first in Greater London, set along the River Thames. The hotel, currently undergoing renovations, will feature 205 rooms, characterful artwork, riverside lounges, two restaurants, and a Live Lounge for entertainment. Additionally, it will offer a spa, gym, outdoor pool (May-September), and a wellness program. Surrounded by historical sites, the hotel aims to provide a unique riverside experience.

Barons Eden enhances its sustainability efforts by introducing 20 beehives across its properties, overseen by resident beekeepers. The honey produced is incorporated into various dishes on the menus. Hoar Cross Hotel, part of Barons Eden, has undergone a £1.5m investment to transition from kerosene to biomass for heating. These initiatives align with Barons Eden’s commitment to the UK’s goal of halving carbon emissions by 2030. The company emphasises ongoing efforts to create a sustainable and welcoming environment for both wildlife and guests, including rewilding projects at Hoar Cross Hall.
