After initially submitting a credit bid, the council decided to transfer the hotel to a third party, citing financial pressures and the need to avoid further costs. This move ensures that the hotel can be completed swiftly without further strain on the council’s budget. The sale aligns with the council’s commitment to act in taxpayers’ best interests while addressing an £11m overspend and a looming £24m budget gap. Approval for the sale is expected in mid-October.
