The historic Kirroughtree House Hotel in Newton Stewart, a 17th-century property set on eight acres, is on the market for £695,000. Formerly a 17-bedroom country house hotel, the building has served as a wedding and spiritual center. Owned since 2012, the property is being sold due to retirement and offers opportunities for redevelopment, including reopening as a hotel or converting to apartments. Tony Spence of Christie and Co highlighted its potential for tourism, weddings, or outdoor activity ventures, given its charm, private grounds, and nearby lodge park.

Scotland’s oldest independent hotel operator, Crieff Hydro, is undertaking a multi-million-pound renovation of its flagship property. Enhancements include a new day-to-night bar, refurbished dining spaces, a speakeasy bar, and an updated food and drink menu showcasing Scottish produce. The project, led by sixth-generation Leckie brothers, Richard and Charlie, aims to blend heritage with contemporary offerings. Set for completion in spring 2025, the upgrades will maintain guest access to leisure and dining options throughout the process.

The Royal Hotel in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, has been sold to a private operator after 30 years of ownership by William Bailey. Built in 1832, the hotel boasts 51 en-suite rooms, a bar, and a restaurant with sea views. Under Bailey’s stewardship, it earned numerous accolades, including a 2023 AA four-silver-star rating and a two-Rosette award for culinary excellence. The sale marks the end of Bailey’s tenure, with new owners inheriting a well-regarded and profitable business.

Ruby Hotels has launched Ruby Stella, its third property in London, located in Clerkenwell. Offering rooms tailored to various travelers, from compact “Nest Rooms” to spacious “Lovely Rooms,” the hotel emphasizes comfort and a homely vibe. For the first time, Ruby introduces windowless rooms in its portfolio. Inspired by Charles Dickens, the hotel’s design reflects the author’s local ties. Ruby Hotels, headquartered in Munich, now operates 20 hotels across Europe, with six more in development.
