Cycas Hospitality has appointed Philip Steiner as chief operating officer for the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, and Portugal. Steiner, with extensive hospitality experience, previously managed London’s Bankside Hotel and served as general manager at Moxy and Residence Inn by Marriott Slough. He began his career at Cycas in 2018 and is a fellow of the Institute of Hospitality. Steiner is enthusiastic about his new role, aiming to support Cycas’ growth. CEO Matt Luscombe praised Steiner’s leadership and achievements, anticipating further success under his expanded responsibilities.
Travelodge has acquired a former Ibis hotel at The Bromley Mall in South East London. The company has signed a 25-year lease and plans to refit the 59-room hotel, targeting an Easter 2025 opening. This acquisition is part of Travelodge’s expansion in London, where it currently operates 82 hotels. The group is also converting an office building in St Paul’s and has new hotels underway in Upminster, Beckenham, Chiswick, and Stratford. Steve Bennett, chief property and development officer, highlighted the ongoing search for development opportunities within the M25, focusing on office conversions, new builds, and Local Authority deals.
Cameron House Resort on Loch Lomond has appointed Will Oakley as managing director. Oakley brings over 30 years of luxury hospitality experience, previously leading Jumby Bay Island in Antigua to a five-star Forbes rating. His career includes roles at The Cadogan in London, Glenapp Castle in Scotland, and Cobblers Cove in Barbados. At Cameron House, Oakley will oversee all aspects of the resort’s operations, including accommodation, F&B, and guest experiences, aiming to enhance its reputation for excellence and innovation.
The Expanse Hotel in Bridlington will close due to challenging trading conditions. The hotel, a family-owned establishment since 1937, will continue operating its apartments and residential properties. The closure also affects the Marine Bar, a CAMRA Good Beer guide feature. The owners expressed gratitude to guests, staff, and local suppliers for their support and contributions to the hotel’s long history.
