Whitbread reported a 2% drop in total group sales to £763m in the third quarter, largely due to anticipated declines in UK food and beverage (F&B) sales linked to its Accelerating Growth Plan. Premier Inn UK’s total accommodation sales matched last year’s, despite a 3% decrease in revenue per available room (RevPAR). However, the six weeks to January 9, 2025, saw a 2% rise in UK accommodation sales, with RevPAR stable. Whitbread confirmed no changes to its FY25 guidance, emphasizing progress on strategic priorities, expecting to offset a £20m to £25m profit impact, and manage UK cost inflation effectively. CEO Dominic Paul highlighted the company’s confident outlook, particularly in Premier Inn’s performance and expansion in Germany.

The Foresters Arms, a historic 17th-century pub in Grassington, North Yorkshire, has been sold to Brian and Keeva Hartley after being owned by Rita and her family for over 30 years. The pub, with seven ensuite bedrooms and potential for further development, is a central feature of the local community and a popular tourist spot. Christie and Co facilitated the sale, noting significant interest due to Grassington’s appeal.

UKHospitality voiced concerns over a potential tourist tax, warning it could harm the UK’s tourism sector, which already suffers from high VAT rates compared to Europe. The trade body argued that a tourist tax could add over £4bn in costs, deterring both international and domestic tourists, and adversely impacting the £140bn sector.

London and Regional Hotels announced a refurbishment of the London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, supported by a multimillion-pound loan from Santander. The project will renovate guest rooms and expand the hotel’s capacity, aiming to enhance its appeal to both business and leisure travelers. The hotel’s location in London’s West End positions it well for benefiting from ongoing area developments.
