The Newt in Somerset has appointed Gelf Alderson as its new head of food. Alderson, formerly of River Cottage, brings expertise in sustainable, seasonal cuisine, having earned a Michelin Green star for sustainability. In his new role, he will oversee all food concepts across The Newt’s restaurants, eateries, and retail outlets, emphasizing an “estate first” approach that showcases homegrown produce. He will also collaborate on events, workshops, and the development of The Newt’s Chef Academy. CEO Andrew Foulkes praised Alderson’s experience and alignment with the estate’s values, expressing confidence in his leadership.
Stratford Park Hotel and Golf Club has introduced newly refurbished wellness rooms for hire by wellness professionals. Located in a former 14th-century farmhouse, the rooms accommodate a range of therapies, including counselling, coaching, and yoga, with tranquil views over the 130-acre estate. Co-owner Beverley Haynes sees this as a step toward positioning Stratford Park as a wellness destination, with future plans including a gym. She emphasized the importance of creating a relaxing environment for wellness activities and corporate use.
Ballygally Castle, owned by Hastings Hotels, has invested £400,000 in renovations ahead of its 400th anniversary. The upgrades include refurbished Coastal Rooms, the Antrim Suite, and the private dining space, along with new lounge furniture. Celebratory events planned for 2025 include a murder mystery event, a community BBQ, and an anniversary accommodation package. A historical timeline installation will highlight major global events since the castle’s construction in 1625. The castle, originally built by James Shaw, has changed hands multiple times and has been owned by Hastings Hotels since 1966.
Radisson Hotel Group and Manchester City have announced their collaboration on The Medlock, a new 401-room hotel opening in late 2026 at the Etihad Campus. Named after the River Medlock, the hotel will cater to sports and music fans attending events at Etihad Stadium and Co-op Live. It will feature a range of suites, dining outlets, a rooftop experience, and a museum. Designed to attract corporate and MICE events, it will be part of Manchester City’s £300m campus expansion. Radisson executives expressed excitement about partnering with the club to enhance Manchester’s hospitality scene.
