Apex Hotels has achieved Gold Green Tourism Accreditation for six city-centre properties in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Temple Court. This recognition reflects the hotel group’s commitment to sustainability, with a focus on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and community engagement. Apex Hotels already had two accredited properties in Bath and Dundee, reinforcing its eco-friendly approach across the UK. Sustainability initiatives include a zero-landfill policy, locally sourced produce, and energy-efficient technology. CEO Angela Vickers emphasised that responsible tourism is integral to Apex Hotels’ strategy, as modern travelers seek sustainable options without sacrificing quality.
European hotel values increased by 2% in 2024, driven by lower interest rates and steady demand, according to HVS’ Hotel Valuation Index. The industry has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, with Southern and Eastern Europe showing the most growth. Lisbon, Madrid, and Edinburgh saw value increases of 6-8%, while German markets experienced moderate gains. Paris remains the most expensive hotel market in Europe. Despite the positive outlook, analysts warn that a weakening dollar and geopolitical uncertainties could impact future growth.
Village Club Hotel has partnered with Russell WBHO to expand its Ashton-under-Lyne property in Greater Manchester, adding 48 rooms across four upper floors. The hotel will remain open during construction, with a link bridge connecting the new extension. This project is part of a broader initiative to optimize hotel layouts. A Midlands expansion is also in the pipeline, with Russell WBHO leveraging its expertise to deliver efficient and minimally disruptive extensions.
Conor O’Leary has been promoted to group managing director of The Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire and Estelle Manor in Oxfordshire. He previously served as Gleneagles’ MD since 2019 and has an extensive career in luxury hospitality, including roles at The Ritz and Grand Hyatt Dubai. Estelle Manor, launched in 2023 by Sharan Pasricha, is a countryside retreat featuring high-end amenities such as a Roman-inspired bathhouse, multiple restaurants, and an exclusive events space, Fallow House.
