Gary Atkinson acquires The Golden Lion in Stirling

The Golden Lion hotel in Stirling has been acquired by hospitality entrepreneur Gary Atkinson for an undisclosed sum. The 66-bedroom property in the heart of Stirling is almost 240 years old and has been a long-standing favourite for diners, travellers and wedding parties. Hotelier Atkinson has purchased the Golden Lion, the oldest building on King Street, from previous owners Flagship Hotels. Atkinson is a seasoned hospitality expert currently offering consultancy advice to the trade, having previously owned and ran hotels and many premium stadiums. He is also a business ambassador for the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, and a member of their Scottish Business Advisory Group. The hotel was built in 1786 when the street, known in medieval times as the High Gait, was originally known as Quality Street before being renamed King Street in 1821 to celebrate the coronation of George IV. He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be the proud new owner of such an iconic established hotel, restaurant and hospitality venue.
