Situated on Lower Briggate, the hotel will feature 107 bedrooms, two meeting rooms, a 24/7 fitness centre, and an on-site Mediterranean restaurant and bar called The Banksia. General Manager Simon Grace emphasized the hotel’s vibrant atmosphere and local appeal, while Keval Thakerar, director of Belfont Hotels, highlighted its unique design inspired by Leeds’ character.
In Stirling, hospitality entrepreneur Gary Atkinson has acquired the historic Golden Lion Hotel, a 66-room venue built in 1786. Formerly owned by Flagship Hotels, the property is the oldest building on King Street and has long been a popular destination for guests and events. Atkinson, an industry veteran and business ambassador, plans to enhance the hotel’s offerings with a focus on quality service, locally sourced produce, and community engagement. He sees significant potential in the hotel’s facilities, including a 250-seat ballroom and multiple meeting rooms, aiming to strengthen its reputation and boost local tourism.
Hilco Real Estate Finance (HREF) has completed a £12m refinancing deal for a 178-bedroom hotel near Heathrow Airport. The 18-month loan will support the transition of the property from a government contract to operation under a new international brand, accompanied by a broader investment programme. HREF completed the transaction within three weeks, highlighting its growing presence in the hotel sector. This is HREF’s fourth hotel loan in the past year, following a £24m residential deal earlier this month and £44m of lending in February.
Haven, a major UK holiday park operator, recorded its biggest ever Easter season, welcoming over 400,000 guests—a 25% increase compared to last year. The boost was credited to favourable early April weather and a continued rise in staycations. Haven operates 39 parks across the UK and has seen surging demand despite later rain. CEO Simon Palethorpe attributed the success to ongoing investment in facilities, accommodation, and guest experiences. At Littlesea Park in Dorset alone, over 7,000 visitors enjoyed Easter activities, entertainment, and the indoor pool, contributing to the brand’s record-breaking season.
