15th Century Bull Hotel placed on market for £1.25m

The 15th Century coaching inn, the Bull Hotel in Burford, has been placed on the market with a guide price of £1.25m.

The Grade II listed hotel has a distinctive brick-built frontage and offers 18 guest bedrooms, including three in the former stables and garage at the rear, the Bull also features plenty of staff accommodation.

The current owner bought the business from Greene King in 2009 and set about a “major refurbishment”, however after many years in the business have decided to sell the business in order to retire.

Peter Brunt, Hotels director at Colliers International, who is handling the sale, said: “Burford has always been busy – from the late 17th and 18th Centuries when it was a thriving stop on the route to Cheltenham and Wales from London, to today as a tourist magnet. The Bull has always prospered from the trade its superb location can generate.

“The 18 rooms provide a solid base for the F&B element, which draws plenty of local as well as one-off visitor custom. Burford remains a mecca for thousands of tourists every year and is easily accessed from London via the M40 and A40 – ideal for the short break business that is becoming increasingly important to the industry.”

He added: “In addition, the staff accommodation could be converted in to five letting rooms – to give 22 rooms in total – subject to the usual planning permissions. The Bull would also readily convert to B&B use for a buyer just looking for a business without a food and beverage offering.”

The hotel finished the year ending 2018 with sales of £603,000.
