Premier Inn installs defibrillators across all sites

Premier Inn has announced the installation of defibrillators across all of its hotels.

All 800 Premier Inn sites, including hub-hotels, now have the lifesaving equipment installed in the event a guest or passer-by goes into cardiac arrest.

All Premier Inn first aiders are trained to use the equipment, and a first aider is on site at all times across every hotel. All of the defibrillators, which are designed to send an electric shock to the heart, are fully automatic and talk the user through its usage.

Premier Inn is now the only major UK hotel chain to have installed defibrillators across its entire estate.

Anthony Marsh, chairman of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, said: “I very much welcome the decision by Whitbread to place a defibrillator at each of their Premier Inn hotels – it’s a move which could save countless lives and I hope other major hotel chains follow suit.

“The reality is that increasing the number of defibrillators could make the difference between life and death and ultimately give friends and families the chance to spend time with their loved ones that they would not otherwise have had.”

Premier Inn managing director, Simon Ewins, said: “We are absolutely delighted our new equipment has been put to good use so quickly. It’s a wonderful start to the New Year.

“The Powerheart G5 Defibrillators have been provided by Cardiac Science. Cardiac Science is a global organisation who manufacture and distribute this life-saving equipment to companies, healthcare professionals, emergency responders, and the general public.”
