Marriott to open Moxy-branded hotel at Aberdeen Airport

Marriott International has announced it will open a 200-room Moxy-branded hotel at Aberdeen Airport later this year.

The opening is part of the company’s plans to open five new hotels in key European cities throughout the year, which also include properties in Munich, Eschborn and Berlin in Germany, and Oslo in Norway.

Marriott said the openings will strengthen Moxy Hotels’ ongoing expansion plans since its successful debut of Moxy Milan, Italy, in September 2014. The brand expects to offer a portfolio of some 150 hotels around the world within the next ten years.

Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International, Europe, said:  “This is an exciting and pivotal moment for the Moxy brand as we move into the second phase of development with five new hotel openings this year and nine more expected in 2017.

“In 2014, Moxy Milan hit the market with a bang, as the first budget-savvy hotel brand to shake up the industry with a fun, stylish, and unexpected hospitality experience. We are so pleased to be able to offer this game-changing experience to more travellers in more major cities. This is just the beginning of a sensational journey for Moxy in Europe.”

The Moxy brand is aimed at millennials and features highly social spaces with a lounge, 24/7 self-service grab and go, plug-ins for personal devices, free WiFi and the Moxy Digital Guestbook for streaming videos and pictures via Instagram.

Meanwhile, guestrooms will offer keyless entry, screen casting and motion sensor lighting, while the design of the property will be inspired by the local area. Hotel’s will also feature photo booth elevators, encouraging guests to take selfies with locally-inspired props.
