The Institute of Hospitality (IoH) welcomed 435 new members in 2012, an increase of 6.9 per cent on 2011.

Many of the new subscriptions were made by people new to the Institute, with the remainder consisting of former members returning after a period of non-membership and students finishing their studies converting from the Institute’s Education Membership Scheme to full membership.

Chief executive of the Institute of Hospitality Peter Ducker FIH said: “Despite the challenging economic environment – or perhaps because of it – we are continuing to welcome a significant number of new members who recognise the wide range of benefits of belonging to their professional body.”

Additionally, the IoH’s social media networking increased during the year. Its Twitter followers were up 50 per cent and readers of its EMS blog doubled year-on-year.
