Macdonald Hotels in the North West has introduced a new apprenticeship scheme for young people to kick start their careers in hospitality.

The Macdonald Hotels Hospitality Academy will guide young people on a fast-track training course over 12 months.

Marie Pollock, training and development manager for Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “There are high numbers of young people not in education, employment or training. However, the hotel industry offers a superb career for those with a hard-working attitude.”

The youngsters aged from 16 to 18 were interviewed and shortlisted to a final nine. They will be put through their paces in real life hotel scenarios in every department from catering to housekeeping and reception. They will then select the area of the hotel industry they would like to concentrate on and achieve a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality qualification.

Five hotels are involved in the scheme including Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa, Macdonald Manchester Townhouse Hotel, Macdonald Tickled Trout in Preston and Macdonald Kilhey Court in Wigan and Macdonald Craxton Wood near Chester.
