Virgin Hotels to launch first UK sites in spring 2022

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. Virgin Hotels has announced two planned hotel properties will launch in Scotland this spring, with the first launch set for Edinburgh and shortly followed by Glasgow. The properties mark Virgin’s first hotels outside of the US.

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh will be located in the landmark India Buildings in Edinburgh’s Old Town near The Royal Mile. It will comprise 225 chambers and grand chamber suites, and multiple dining and drinking outlets, including the Commons Club, Virgin Hotel’s cultural hub.

In re-envisioning the building, the design team will work to preserve its “notable elements”.

Additionally, late spring in 2022 will see Virgin Hotels Glasgow represent the brand’s second Scottish hotel. The property will be located at 236-246 Clyde Street, overlooking the River Clyde in the heart of Glasgow’s shopping area.

The Glasgow hotel comprises 242 chambers and grand chamber suites, meeting and event space, and multiple dining and drinking outlets, including the brand’s Commons Club, a restaurant, bar, social club, and the Funny Library Coffee Shop.

Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, said: “Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe.”

James Bermingham, CEO of Virgin Hotels, added: “Virgin Hotels Glasgow will have all the brand differentiators such as our innovative chamber room design, forward-thinking technology, food and beverage offerings and entertainment. We look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike to enjoy our distinctive lifestyle experience.”
