‘Problem hotel’ to remain closed for three more months

The Nottingham City Council, working with Nottinghamshire Police, has secured a further three-month closure order at The Stage Hotel, following “significant concerns” over criminality, nuisance and anti-social behaviour.

Criminal activity taking place at the premises included sexual offences, child sexual exploitation, assaults, domestic violence, public order offences, theft, drug related offences and other anti-social behaviour.

Despite extensive engagement by the council, police and other partner agencies with those connected with the ownership and management of the hotel, “no improvement in behaviours were forthcoming”, prompting the council to seek the closure of the premises.

Toby Neal, portfolio holder for community protection, said: “This is a positive outcome at court which enables the ongoing prevention and disruption of anti-social and criminal behaviour in and around The Stage Hotel.

“We’re pleased the application wasn’t contested by either the owner or leaseholder, and that the order allows for the owner to take action to carry out repairs to the property and to ensure it is secured.”

He added: “We are committed to tackling all forms of anti-social and criminal activity and ensuring that those who manage hotels and similar premises understand their responsibility and accountability for behaviours that take place on their premises. Robust action will be taken in cases where those responsibilities are not met.”
