Staycity to open new Edinburgh hotel in December

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Aparthotel operator Staycity Group will open its third Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity in Edinburgh next month.

The property offers 128 studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments as well as a gym, guest lounge and Staycafé. The development forms part of a wider mixed-use scheme comprising residential and commercial units and student accommodation.

The opening comes in a year of “rapid expansion”, according to Staycity, which has seen new outlets in Paris and Venice as well as announcements of site acquisitions in Dublin, Berlin, London, Frankfurt and York amounting to 500 apartments in major UK cities.

Staycity Group reported a 2.4% hike in like-for-like sales in the first half of 2019, on the back of a rise in occupancy and average daily rates. Anticipated turnover for 2019 is €81m (£69m), up 18% on 2018.

Staycity Group CEO and co-founder Tom Walsh, said: “One of the key prerequisites for Wilde is that they’re central to the heart of the city. Both the Berlin and Edinburgh properties are in stunning locations with the best each city has to offer on their doorstep. It’s exciting to see the Wilde brand taking shape as we add to the estate.”
