Chester Grosvenor to remain closed despite hotels being allowed to reopen on 4 July

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

The Chester Grosvenor hotel has announced it will remain closed for safety reasons even if the government allows hotels to reopen on 4 July.

The hotel temporarily closed its doors in March following government guidelines to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

In a statement on the company’s website, general manager Richard Gove said: “Whilst the Government has given the indication that hotels and restaurants may begin to open from 4 July, here at the Chester Grosvenor we want your visit to us to be a safe, special and memorable one.

“We have therefore taken the difficult decision to continue to remain closed to protect the safety of our guests and our team members. We will be working to make our hotel a safe haven for all of our visitors both those who have chosen to stay with us and those visiting us for dining and spa.”

Grove said the hotel will remain closed throughout July and any reservations due to arrive in July will be cancelled.

He added: “We hope that you would be able to move your reservation to a later date or to have a full credit voucher towards a future stay for guests who do not have a new date in mind.

“We do however understand that in these difficult times you may prefer to have your payment refunded and be able to make a future booking with us once we have reopened.”
