In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Willow Pay, a payroll provider, has identified the following aspects of payroll that frequently catch employees out. Getting it wrong can mean an unhappy workforce, and even more significantly, heavy fines.

  • Auto enrolment

The new workplace pensions means workers must be enrolled into a pension every time they become eligible. This can change weekly and monitoring eligibility can be time consuming and tricky, increasing the scope for error. However failure to enrol workers correctly will result in hefty fines.

  • Holiday pay

When calculating holiday pay, any overtime, commission or bonuses that could have been earned must be factored in. Recently, workers have fought and won the right to back pay for underpaid holiday, therefore it is important to get it right and avoid a legal case.

  • National minimum wage

It is a legal obligation to pay your employees the correct wage for their age range. This has been further complicated by the introduction of the national living wage on 1 April 2016.

Willow Pay ensures their clients adhere to these rules as well as all other aspects of payroll. Willow Pay is currently offering Hotel Owner readers one month’s free payroll. Contact the company on info@willowpay.co.uk or 0208 941 8686 for more details.
