Hotel industry players tee off in Harrogate

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Over 70 industry players braved the wind and rain to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hotel Booking Agents’ Association’s annual Golf Classic on 28 June.

General managers from some of the UK’s leading hotels and venues, major hotel booking agents and representatives from the corporate world turned up to compete for the HBAA golf trophy and raise money for the chairman’s chosen charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

And while nine teams of golfers attempted to master the course at Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, non-golfers were treated to a range of outdoor activities, including crossbow archery, rage buggying and 4×4 off-road driving.

Following the day’s activities, attendees enjoyed networking, a three-course meal and an auction to raise funds for the RNLI. The attendees also bid against each other to win a stay at Chewton Glen Hotel for eight people.

The HBAA’s chair, Chris Peacock, who hosted the evening events, announced the tournament champions and the charity auction winner, Martin Stephens, director of Off Limits Corporate Events, who helped raise £1,250 for the RNLI. When the presentations were complete, guests were entertained by Yorkshire comedian Mike Kelly and had the opportunity to network until the early hours.

“I would like to thank both Rudding Park’s Golf Club House staff and hotel staff for looking after us so well and ensuring our members and guests had the best possible day,” Peacock said.

“It was great to see so many members joining us for the occasion and raising another £1,600 for this year’s chairman’s charity, the RNLI. I hope we will see many of them back again in 2013.”
