Jeremy Goring crowned Independent Hotelier of the Year 2012

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

CEO of The Goring, Jeremy Goring has been awarded Independent Hotelier of the Year 2012, sponsored by the Independent Hotel Show.

Jeremy’s engraved Baccarat trophy was presented by chef, restaurateur, hotelier and television presenter Rick Stein OBE.

Nominated for his ability to inspire and innovate, while bringing humour and eccentricity to The Goring, Jeremy has invested in luxurious facilities and managed to combine English tradition with artistic touches at his hotel.

Jeremy commented: “We at The Goring are over the moon to have been given this award. Running an independent hotel is so different from being part of a bigger organisation, because you live and die on your own successes and failures. You have freedoms that aren’t accorded in the big hotel chains, so you can deliver a much more individual experience but that extra licence you are given, can lead to much bigger disasters too. So it’s really nice that a whole show is being dedicated to this sector. Thank you!”

MD of SME London, the organiser of the Independent Hotel show, Tim Etchell added: “The importance of a new award recognising the contribution made by independent hoteliers cannot be under-estimated.

“Having researched this sector and recognising a gap in the market for the Independent Hotel Show, we quickly realised how under-celebrated independent hoteliers are. So many carry out outstanding work and we felt the time was right to recognise their contribution with a special award. We’re delighted that hoteliers from all over the UK voted and know we have a fitting winner.”
