Quick sale of Cotswold pub strengthens claim that area “defying national trend”

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Cotswold pub the Bell Inn has been sold just seven weeks by Colliers International after it was put on the market, giving credence to the view the area is the antithesis of the current national situation.

Located in Stow-on-the-Wold, the Bell Inn would have been sold quicker were it not for an abortive sale. Hotels director at Colliers International Peter Brunt said: “We have been saying all year that the hotel and pub sector in the Cotswolds is defying national trends and that there are plenty of potential landlords out there keen to get a foothold in this wonderful part of the country.”

The Bell Inn has been bought by well-known local operators Sue Hawkins and her niece Rachel. This is the seventh pub to be targeted by the family and Sue remarked: “Our ethos is to put the customer first at all times. Locals first, with tourists the icing on the cake. The Bell will be a very relaxed refurbishment which we would expect to complete early in 2013.”
