UK hotel bookings remain strong despite recent terror attacks

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Despite suffering four terror attacks in the last three months, the UK hotel booking numbers have remained strong as RevPAR (revenue per available room) continues to increase.

Figures from the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) show that things have remained positive for the UK hotel industry.

In April, RevPar across Europe reported an increase of 4.3% when compared to the same period in 2016.

The results echo recent figures from VisitBritain which showed that April was a record month for inbound tourism to the UK, with some 3.7million visitors arriving in the UK, up 19% compared to the same period last year.

British growth is, however, mostly driven by prices (up by 5.6% in local currency), although the occupancy rate remains on the rise at an increase of 1.3%.

This is in contrast to Paris and Nice which saw a drop in tourism following the terror attacks there in the past two years.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of the ALMR said: “We have an increasing body of members who operate in the hotel and accommodation sector, and as the only national trade body dedicated to representing the interests of licensed hospitality operators, we’re delighted to be able to share this information which paints a continuing positive picture for the industry in the UK and throughout Europe.”
