Fire ravages Gloucester’s The Fleece Inn

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

A fire as torn through The Fleece Inn, with fire fighters in attendance throughout the night, according to local press.

The two uppermost storeys have completely burnt out, and the roof has been largely destroyed, according to a report from Gloucestershire Live.

The property is owned by Gloucester City Council from what was the Regional Development Agency, and consists of a 15th Century timber-frame structure, and below ground a vault dating back to the 12th Century.

Hotel Owner understands the building was not currently in use, as the local authority ad been working with a firm of architects, Butler Hegarty, to assess the costs of restoring the building to full public use.
