The Holiday Inn Winchester is celebrating the accreditation by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK.
The hotel was graded against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas including energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more. The GTBS assessor was impressed by the hotel’s use of local produce, as well as reducing packaging, using iPads for the wine list and other creative ways to save paper within the hotel.
General manager Siobhan Thomasson said: “We are all thrilled that we have once again met the very high criteria of the Green Tourism scheme and retained our Gold status. The scheme’s assessors also help us to identify further areas where we can continue to improve our sustainability, such as transport to the hotel and we have recently received planning approval for a bike store for the hotel’s guests and staff.”
