The Chesway Collection appoints new chief exec

Former general manager of The Montenotte to lead the hotel group following two decades in luxury hospitality

In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The Chesway Collection has appointed Frits Potgieter as chief executive to oversee its portfolio of independent hotels.

Potgieter joined the group in 2022 as general manager of The Montenotte in Cork and has more than 20 years of experience in the international luxury sector.

The appointment comes as the group seeks to align its properties, including The Montenotte, The Woodland Suite Experience, and The Wilder Townhouse in Dublin, under a shared vision.

The restructure precedes the launch of the Signature Collection at The Montenotte this April, which adds 36 rooms to the estate.

Potgieter previously held senior leadership positions at several high-profile hotels in Ireland and the UK.

He served as general manager of Muckross Park Hotel and Spa in Killarney and The Imperial Hotel Cork, following roles with The Doyle Collection at The Kensington and The Marylebone in London.

His career also includes almost nine years with The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, where he held deputy general manager roles at The Milestone Hotel and The Chesterfield Mayfair

In a LinkedIn post, Potgieter said: “I am delighted and honoured to step into the role of CEO of The Chesway Collection and I look forward to working with our incredibly talented and passionate teams at The Montenotte, The Woodland Suite Experience, and The Wilder Townhouse.

“What excites me about this role is helping to connect these exceptional experiences more clearly under The Chesway Collection, while preserving the individuality and character that makes each one so very special.”

The Montenotte added: “We are delighted to share the appointment of Frits Potgieter MIHI as CEO of The Chesway Collection, marking an exciting new chapter for both The Montenotte and The Wilder Townhouse.

“Having joined The Montenotte as general manager in 2022, Frits brings over two decades of international luxury hospitality experience, alongside a thoughtful, people-led approach and a deep understanding of what makes each of our properties distinctive. His appointment feels like a natural evolution, as The Chesway Collection continues to connect The Montenotte, The Woodland Suite Experience, and The Wilder Townhouse under a shared vision, while preserving the individuality at the heart of each.”
