Liverpool hotel rates up 200% ahead of Eurovision

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Hotel rates in Liverpool are up 200% year-on-year for May for four and five star hotels as a result of Eurovision being held there.

Research from Hotel Planner found that the majority of rooms left in the city centre are apartments, which are going for between £500 and £900 a night.

Tim Hentchel, co-founder and CEO of HotelPlanner, said: “This is an increase of £150 – £300 per night compared to May 2022. For more affordable options, travellers to the city for Eurovision might want to consider staying on the outskirts of the city.

“Two and three-star properties around 10 miles or more outside the city centre are still reasonably priced around the £100 mark per night.”

When Liverpool was announced as the host city last October, the city’s Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram criticised ‘grossly inflated’ hotel prices after hotels and other accommodation venues were accused of hiking up prices.

Rotheram said: “For our area [Eurovision] is a fantastic chance to showcase all that is good in a great city – and beyond. That is why it is so disappointing to see some businesses in our region who have jumped at the chance to grossly inflate prices.

The Eurovision song contest will be held on 13 May at Liverpool’s M and S Bank Arena.
