Sheffield Quays hotel opens leisure facilities ahead of full reopening

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

The Quays Hotel – formerly the Sheffield Hilton which closed late last year – has re-opened its leisure and health facilities featuring a spa, extensive gym and studios plus a 20m swimming pool to non-residents, ahead of its full reopening in the coming month.

UK independent hotel management company, Legacy Hotels and Resorts has been appointed to re-open the four-star hotel and leisure club over the coming weeks following its closure late last year when Hilton surrendered its lease on the property.

The hotel, which originally opened under the ownership and branding of Stakis Hotels, features 128 bedrooms, meeting spaces and is home to the Quays Restaurant, is situated on Furnival Road, at Victoria Quays.

Legacy Hotels and Resorts is a privately owned, hotel management company and currently has an active and development pipeline of branded and independent guestrooms throughout the UK, Spain and Scandinavia representing around 3,300 guestrooms.

Legacy CEO Andy Townsend said: “This is the first step for an exciting new future for the hotel. We know how popular the leisure area was for people from Sheffield and we are delighted that the facilities are up and running again under Phil and his team of six staff. We expect to announce the reopening and new branding of the hotel in a couple of weeks.”

He added: “The hotel is a well-established addition to our portfolio, and we expect that it will reopen over the next few weeks. Over the years the hotel has been popular with guests, diners and leisure facility users alike. It has tremendous potential where we will also seek to build on its popularity as an event location.”
