Hotel group The Resident, formally Nadler Hotels, has submitted plans to Edinburgh Council to create its first property in the city.
The group, which has five hotels situated in London’s Covent Garden, Kensington, Soho, Victoria, as well as Liverpool, is bidding to convert the current office space being leased by HMRC into a 166-bedroom hotel.
Although the lease is due to end in April next year, if plans are approved, the hotel will be transformed by Canon Capital Developments.
The planning statement said the proposed development would not provide any in-house bars, restaurants, cafes or conferencing and gym facilities and instead “actively encourages guests” to spend more time locally and in businesses in the city centre.
The planning statement said: “The change of use proposed will see the creation of a high quality hotel in a highly accessible city centre location.
“The hotel proposed will positively enhance the vitality of the city centre and will contribute to Edinburgh’s role as a capital city and key tourist attraction.”
