Redefine BDL Hotels set for international expansion

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Hotel management company Redefine BDL is considering international expansion in 2015 after a successful 2014 boosted its portfolio of managed properties to 70.

Stewart Campbell, Managing Director of Redefine BDL Hotels said that the company “smashed” its targets in terms of contracts secured.

This included the announcement of its partnership with LRG for 19 Holiday Inns and three Crowne Plazas – the largest ever hotel management only deal in Europe.

A successful year for the company saw a 20% increase in revenue during the Christmas period compared to the same time last year, and a 16% rise in revenue per available room (revpar) across its regional properties.

Campbell explained how 2014 proved fruitful for the company and has set the scene for a buoyant 2015.

He said: “Our strong position means our strategy for European expansion will step up a gear in 2015 and is likely to follow one of two routes – either following an owner with a portfolio of existing hotels in Europe, or buying a small hotel management company on the continent.”

Campbell revealed that the company’s growth aspirations have the potential to reach even further than Europe, he said: “In addition to our existing ambitions, and in light of our success in 2014, our long-term vision has adapted. We are now exploring the potential to expand into the USA.”

The current portfolio of 70 properties accounts for more than 11,700 rooms and 4,500 staff across the UK.
