Hotel owner and operator the Arora Group has launched a recruitment and apprenticeship campaign to encourage employment for its new hotel – InterContinental London – The 02.

The group said it has partnered with the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the campaign which has been designed to encourage employment from within Greenwich and its surrounding areas.

As part of the initiative, the Arora Group has committed to provide at least 40% of all jobs within its new hotel to those living in Greenwich. The company has estimated that some 400 people will be recruited via a series of assessment centres set up across the borough.

In addition, the group will also work with the council and local colleges to offer work experience placements and to launch the Arora Apprenticeship Scheme, which will select a minimum of 25 people to join the programme.

Surinder Arora, CEO and co-founder of the group, said: “At Arora, we are opening our most ambitious leisure and business hotel yet, with London’s largest new event space, so it’s vital we find the right people, with great local knowledge and a customer-focused attitude, to join the team that will put this new hotel firmly on the map.”

Councillor Denise Hyland, leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said the council was “delighted” to be working with the Arora Group to deliver “fantastic employment and apprenticeship programme to local residents”.

The 18-story, 453-bedroom InterContinental London – the 02 is expected to open in winter this year.
