Five fire crews have successfully extinguished a fire in the spa of Cliveden House, a luxury country house property in Berkshire.
Firefighters were called to the property at around 9:30am on Wednesday, 6 January, after a fire broke out in the sauna area and roof space of the hotel’s Pavilion Spa, which is detached from the main hotel building.
Six fire engines – one from Beaconsfield, two from Slough, one from Maidenhead, one from Windsor and one from Heathrow – and three officers were called to the scene on Cliveden Road, Taplow. Crews used jets, hose reels, breathing apparatus and a light portable pump – to pump water from the hotel’s swimming pool – to put out the fire.
It is believed that two guests were in the spa at the time the fire broke out and were immediately evacuated. Nobody was injured.
A National Trust spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a fire broke out this morning in the hotel spa at Cliveden affecting the sauna and roof space of the detached building.
“The fire has now been contained by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The hotel spa, which is not attached to [the] main house, was evacuated and no one has been injured.
“We would like to thank the hotel staff, the National Trust team at Cliveden and the Fire and Rescue Service for their swift response.”
