Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened its first hotel in Weston-Super-Mare, and announced plans to open a further four new properties across Somerset.

The 84-room Weston-super-Mare Travelodge – the company’s 526th hotel – has been officially opened on Beaufighter Road and features the brand’s new contemporary design and Bar Café concept. The hotel cost £6.5m and has created 22 new jobs in the local area.

The opening comes as the company seeks to open a further four new hotels across Somerset – representing a total investment of £20m and the creation of 75 new jobs.

Jon Hendry Pickup, COO, said: “We are delighted to have opened our 526th hotel in the famous seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. It’s a fantastic addition to our fast-growing network of hotels in great leisure and business locations across the UK.

“Whilst this is our sixth hotel in Somerset, we’re definitely not finished here. With increased demand for good value and quality accommodation across the county there is still huge potential for Travelodge to grow further.

“We are looking to open another four hotels in the county, which will create 75 new jobs for people in Somerset.”

Travelodge, which has announced an expansion drive to open a further 250 hotels across the UK, currently operates six hotels across Somerset.
