Hyatt Regency London – the Churchill turns art gallery on 1 June, as it launches Making Waves: International Contemporary Arts from the Saatchi Gallery.
To celebrate the Jubilee and summer’s sporting events, the hotel is launching the Making Waves exhibition throughout its lobby and restaurant areas. Artists from all over the world will see their work showcased in the event, which hopes to highlight London as one of the world’s pre-eminent art hubs, as the eyes of the planet descend on the city throughout June and July.
In honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, all guests will be welcomed by Chris Levine’s portrait of Her Majesty, which shows the Queen wearing the famous Diamond Diadem she wore during her Coronation procession.
London’s summer sporting events are also celebrated, with sport-themed art works including Lucy McKenzie’s painting of gymnast Olga Korbut, Jin Myerson’s painting of a cycling race and Kura Shomali’s homage to Muhammed Ali. Other highlights include Black Grape, a two-metre high wave made out of silicon carbide by Dick Evans and Matt Johnson’s three-and-a-half metre blue tarp sculpture of a piano The Pianist.
Making Waves will be shown from 1 June to early October 2012.
