Of the seven prizes up for grabs, Lancaster London scooped the biggest for being the best all-round establishment to have succeeded in a wide range of environmental and social initiatives.

Prof John Forte OBE, CHA ambassador and head judge, said: “Lancaster London has covered all the required aspects for the award in a most commendable fashion, but I was most swayed by their communication and spreading the environmental messages to suppliers, guests and staff, as well as their willingness to share their experiences with their competitors.”

Other awards given out were the Considerate Sustainable Food Award won by the Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu; the Considerate Small Accommodation Provider Award won by Hotel Petit Champ in Sark; the Considerate Green Team of the Year won by Landmark London; the Considerate Green Champion of the Year won by Clare Wright of Lancaster London; the Considerate Green Supplier of the Year won by Sunlight; and the Best Green Marketing Initiative 2011/12 won by Lasswade Country House and Restaurant at Llanwrtyd Wells in Powys, Wales.
