Accorhotels opens doors to ‘everyday heroes’ for 50th anniversary

AccorHotels has honoured ‘everyday heroes’ by inviting them to its almost 2,000 establishments around the world, including 151 hotels across the UK.

The group welcomed emergency services, local charities, volunteer groups, ex-servicemen and women and community leaders to mark its 50th anniversary as a hotel and hospitality operator.

The events gave the group and its employees the opportunity to thank the people who are committed to serving their communities by sharing ‘quality time’ with them around a breakfast, barbecue, concert, or inviting them to stay the night as guests.

For example, Ibis Swansea is provided 50 rooms, buffet breakfasts and a celebratory dinner for disadvantaged people from the local community, along with a climb up Pen Y Fan led by Richard Morgan from 65 Degrees North – an organisation which helps the rehabilitation of wounded or damaged ex-servicemen and women.

Ibis and Novotel London Blackfriars teamed up to provide afternoon tea for emergency services workers and businesses who worked together to help victims during the Borough Market terror attacks.

And the Mercure Shakespeare Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon hosted a Sunday lunch for over 50 volunteers from the local Shakespeare Hospice and their guests.

Thomas Dubaere, COO, AccorHotels UK and Ireland, said: “To mark our 50th anniversary, we believed it was right to give something back to selfless people who do so much in our local communities, and who each of our hotels depend upon as local businesses.

“We are very proud to have welcomed guests to our hotels and their local areas for 50 years, and we look forward to continuing to serve guests and remaining an integral and positive part of our local communities long into the future.”
