Libertines to open new hotel in Margate

The opening date has to yet to be announced but will be accompanied with a launch party held by the band

Rock band The Libertines have revealed a new hotel-cum-studio in Margate, called The Albion Rooms.

The location was previously occupied by The Palm Court hotel.

The property itself is a five-storey, 10-room Victorian-era building overlooking the sea and the famous band stand.

The band were handed the keys to hotel in September 2017 and are aiming to breathe new life into the building. Planning permission has already been granted and the music studio being built is nearly complete.

The band members have already made themselves ‘at home’, and are already in the process of writing their fourth studio album which will involve both fans and the world’s press as part of the creative process.

Individually designed guest rooms, each with a distinctly ‘Libertines style’, will open fully after the recording of the new album.

The band said they were inspired by the “celluloid co-habitation antics” of the Beatles and the Monkees. The band members said that they had been looking for a “living art space…a Warholian factory, with guest rooms, a bar and studio”.
