An EasyHotel property in Belfast has been permitted to by Tourism NI to open despite many rooms failing to meet proper sizing legislation.
According to a report by the BBC legislation requires a minimum size of 13 sq mt for double rooms in Northern Ireland hotels, but many of the property’s 81 rooms fall below this regulation size.
Operating a hotel without proper approval could leave hoteliers fined up to £2,500 or face jail time for up to six months.
A statement by Easyhotel said: “[The hotel has] opened ahead of schedule following receipt of certification” and added there had been a “strong momentum in bookings.”
