The Fairmont St Andrews hotel in  Fife, Scotland has been award ‘Eco Hotel of the Year’ accolade at the AA Hospitality Awards.

According to the AA the hotel’s approach to the environment was “highly proactive” and was a “clear focus” for the whole business, with a “well-established and dedicated green team”, and added: “It is this high level of engagement with its team and their efforts that really stood out for making a difference.”

John Keating, general manager at the hotel, said: “We are so delighted to have been recognised for our achievements towards the environment and green tourism. I am proud of all the hotel colleagues and their commitment to local community tourism initiatives and their dedication to making Fairmont St Andrews a greener hotel.

“The in-house green team, which is made up of representatives from each department, are continually thinking of new ideas to reduce our impact on the environment.”

He added: “Whether this be cultivating our 520 acre estate to encourage biodiversity for our onsite bee hives, or educating guests the importance of the hotels sense of place, all actioned activities are towards the same goal.”
