In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Lifestyle hotel brand Malmaison has announced the launch of Malmaison Manchester Deansgate, opening its doors 1 February 2024.

Sat a stone’s throw from Deansgate thoroughfare which connects the city’s neighbourhoods, this 4-star property will offer 70 rooms and suites, many with views over Albert Square.

Interiors have been given the ‘Mal Treatment’ taking inspiration from the city’s industrial heritage and contributions to art and music, juxtaposed with nods to the building’s brutalist façade to create a diverse experience as the city of Manchester itself.

The bedrooms pay homage to the retro designs of the 60s and 70s, referencing the G Plan furniture of this era, a benchmark for classic British design. Illustrative murals will be a central feature throughout, featuring an artistic fusion of nature motifs.

Jonathan Livesey, group development director at Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, said: “Malmaison Manchester Deansgate translates themes so intrinsic to the story of Manchester into its design while adding a dose of our signature Mal style including bold patterns, powerful colours, and striking artwork that will make a visit to Malmaison Manchester Deansgate a truly unique experience.”

Signature restaurant Malmaison Bar and Grill will seat 114 guests and serve a stylish fusion grill menu, offering a contemporary take on classic and seasonal dishes, curated by chef director John Woodward, served alongside a curated wine list and bar menu.

Manchester Deansgate will also play host to Malmaison’s second Sora rooftop bar and restaurant in the UK, seating 116 guests across its restaurant and terrace that overlooks the Manchester Town Hall. Guests can mix and match small plates from a selection of sushi, Robatayaki and Pan-Asian fusion style tapas dishes.

Scott Harper, COO Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, said: “Driving our food and beverage offering forward is of huge importance to Malmaison and as such we’re also incredibly proud to open our second SORA following its massive success at Malmaison York.

“Bringing SORA to Manchester alongside our signature Malmaison Bar & Grill made complete sense, reinvigorating Malmaison’s food and beverage offering in the city, and further positioning the brand as a unique dining destination.”
