A huge fire has broken out at Osborne View Hotel, an historic seaside pub and hotel in Hampshire.
At around 2.30am, smoke and flames were seen from the site, and around 10 crews attended to tackle the blaze.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue said that “fortunately there were no guests staying at the hotel” and that on-site staff were safely evacuated.
Crews from Fareham, Gosport, Cosham, Portchester, Southsea, Eastleigh, Hightown and Beaulieu attended to tackle the “significant” fire, which was in the roof space of the three-storey building.
Matt Kearsey, managing director at Hall and Woodhouse, said: “A serious fire broke out at the Osborne View Hotel in Fareham in the early hours of this morning.
“Thankfully, all teams on site evacuated before coming to any harm. The wellbeing of all those affected is our primary concern and we will be providing support and reassurance to all those who require it.”
He added: “Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were quickly in attendance and are helping to bring the fire under control. I would like to pass on my deepest gratitude to the emergency crews for their swift action and bravery.
“We will be supporting the emergency services fully in any forthcoming investigation into the cause of the fire.”
In an update this morning, Incident Commander Jim Clarke said: “We are currently using six fire engines, the aerial ladder and jets to dampen down hotspots. We anticipate an emergency service presence for a large portion of the day and we’re liaising with local residents about safety precautions such as keeping doors and windows closed whilst the incident is ongoing.
“There is sadly a significant amount of damage to the building. Our empathy is with the owners, staff and local residents as we know The Osborne View is an asset to the community.”
